Town Centre Pub of The Year 2011 - The Market

In a close fought competition the Market Pub ran out the winner of the branch

Town Centre award for 2011. Landlord Douglas Daniels is pictured receiving

the award from chairman Jane Lefley. This award reflects on the quality of the

pubs varied choice of good ales and excellent staff.

Summer Pub of The Season Award - The Blue Stoops, Walton.

Congratulations to them. The presentation will take place

on Friday 17th June at 9.00pm, everyone welcome.

Spring Pub of The Season Award - The All Inn, Staveley.

The All Inn, Lowgates, Staveley is the reincarnation of the former Smiths Arms - which had been closed for some time before it was bought and renovated by Alan and Viv White. Reopened last June, it has quickly and deservedly become very popular with the local community and can be found busy at most times!

An extensive refurbishment has resulted in a comfortable and well appointed pub, with a central bar flanked by a smart lounge area to the left, and to the right and towards the back, a sports bar with widescreen TV and pool and card tables.

From the start it has offered four real ales, until recently two from the nearby Raw brewery plus two guests, but recently it has become the official Raw brewery tap, increasing the Raw beers to three.

The All Inn won the Spring Pub of the Season ( Jane Lefley presents the award to Alan and Viv White and their daughter Giorgia) against strong competition (particularly from the Clowne Community Centre, another real ale haven) and is proof that even in the current economic climate, pubs can thrive with the right combination of choice, welcome and friendliness –  the All Inn has plenty of all three!

Winter Pub of The Season Award - The Lamb Inn,

Holymoorside

Chesterfield CAMRA’s 2010 Winter Pub of the Season is the Lamb on Loads Road, Holymoorside. The landlord & landlady of the Lamb, Alan and Trish Goucher, are presented with their award by Chairman Jane Lefley.

This isn’t the first time the Lamb has won an award from Chesterfield CAMRA – the walls of the bar show certificates for Pub of the Season and Pub of the Year going back 25 years or more and it’s been in CAMRA’S Good Beer Guide for longer than I can remember.

Alan and Trish Goucher have kept the Lamb for 26 years, taking over from Trish’s father.

The Lamb is a two roomed pub – a public bar where pub games and a quieter (but not much) best room.  Don’t come for a meal – the only food is crisps etc, but on the night of the presentation we had excellent sandwiches.

The most important feature of the Lamb is, of course, the beer.  We had the choice of the regular beers, Daleside Blonde, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Theakston’s Black Bull and the guest beer, Abbeydale Moonshine.

The Lamb is a traditional pub and a refuge from theme pubs, concept pubs and gastro pubs.

It welcomes walkers with clean boots, dogs and everyone else.

Autumn Pub of the Season - The Market, Chesterfield.

The Chairman of Chesterfield CAMRA, Jane Lefley, presents the Pub of the Season Award to Doug and his team at The Market.

Good company, great atmosphere and some fantastic beer! I can only be sat in The Market, awaiting the presentation of Autumn pub oft he Season to Landlord Douglas Daniels and his bar staff.

Two months earler I’d been sat in The Royal Oak at a branch meeting and nominated The Market for ‘Pub of the Season’, so I took great pride that others had voted, and it had managed to win.

Over the past few years The Market has become my local and I’ve seen it grow into a thriving town centre pub. There is always a friendly face, whether it’s behind the bar or someone sat enjoying the ever changing range of Real Ales Douglas has on offer, plus they have a great team in the kitchen producing good home cooked food, all sourced locally, that goes down so well with your pint!

The presentation was held during The Market’s 3rd Oktober Beer and Music Festival, so during the night we were treated to the unique sounds of Whisky Bob and his fiddler friend Annie. But most Sunday nights you can usually find a local musician or band playing, such a great way to finish a busy week.

So I raise my glass of Prince Igor and congratulate Douglas, his staff and The Market Pub on winning! Here’s hoping that you’ll continue to go from strength to strength and who knows next year it might be Pub of the Year we’ll be presenting!

Summer Pub of The Season Award  - The Rose & Crown, Brampton

The Summer Pub of the Season Award has been won by the Rose & Crown Brampton (although the Shoulder of Mutton came a close second, wih only a few votes less).

This is note likely to be a surprise to anyone who has visited the Rose since its re-furrbishment last November.

With eight handpumps supplying the excellent and tasty beers from Brampton Brewery (just down the road), plus beer from Everards and changing guest ales, it was very welcome addition to the Brampton pub scene and rapidly and deservedly became very popular.

Run by the experienced and well known team of Matt, Ken and Jane, who migrated from the Rutland in town, it offers everything you would expect from a community pub, traditional pub food lunch time & an early evening, a weekly quiz on Tuesdays and a monthly music quiz on a Sunday.
