The Castle Inn - Bradway
From: InnSpire - Issue 14 – August 1998

The next in our series of of quality North Derbyshire pubs outside our ‘official jurisdiction takes us to Bradway, a former Derbyshire village that has sadly been swallowed up by the ever encroaching Sheffield metropolis.

In your author’s opinion, there are few outstanding beers that are well worth that little extra effort in seeking out, such as Whim’s Hartington Best Bitter, Archers Golden Best and the local Townes’ Lockoford. However Timothy Taylor’s Landlord from Keighley is arguably the best of the lot!

The Castle Inn off Twentywell Road in Bradway, thankfully has TT’s finest on offer all the time as a guest and I can honestly say that is consistently the best pint of Landlord for miles around. If you can find a finer pint of Landlord then please tell me about it!

The regular cask ales are Boddingtons and Tetley’s, plus Landlord and up to two other guest ales. The ever popular Wells’ Bombardier is usually one of them.

The stone built end-terraced pub has a modest sized tap room at the end plus a lounge with adjoining restaurant, offering excellent value top quality food from the specials board. In addition, the standard pub fayre and bar meals are available. Particularly popular is Monday ‘Steak’ night and the Friday night special of fresh Grimsby cod (deep fried in the chef’s own secret recipe batter), chips, mushy peas plus bread and butter - all for the princely sum of £2.50! Be warned that because it’s fresh fish, supplies are limited.

August Bank Holiday weekend sees the pub hosting its beer festival with 16 different real ales on offer (see pub news) and live jazz on the Sunday.

It promises to be a great occasion and is well worth a visit.
