The Chesterfield Arms triumphs in 2010
Despite the weather taking a sudden turn for the worse, a dedicated bunch of Chesterfield CAMRA members, along with lots of friends and regulars, happily turned out to say a big well done to the folks down at the Chesterfield Arms.
Following a vote by CAMRA members, which saw a record number of people visiting the five candidates and putting their X in the boxes, the Arms was crowned the outright winner of this year’s Pub of the Year Award.
Looking around the room on that night it was pretty easy to see why this pub has quickly won its place in the hearts of local drinkers. The excellent choice of Real Ales (including choices from local breweries) and Real Ciders and Perries, the variety of people enjoying the friendly atmosphere and the welcome everyone received that night are just a few of the reasons. Chairman of Chesterfield Branch of CAMRA, Jane Lefley, is seen presenting the framed certificate to Oliver Brown, FiancĂ©e Jo, Oliver’s dad Dave and some of the team who work behind the bar.
Everyone seemed as pleased as they all were to see the Arms doing so well. Dave gave a lovely speech, telling everyone how grateful they were for everyone’s support. He then went on to say that their aim, along with Everards brewery, had been to give local people a great place to drink, where everyone felt welcome and could get quality drinks at decent prices. On the occasions I have visited the place I would say they had achieved that and more!
The Arms is located on the corner of Newbold Road and Queen Street, not far from the centre of Chesterfield. This is an ideal location, making the pub easily accessible by bus and train. They open from 12noon until 11pm everyday and offer regular quiz nights, live music, bar snacks (try the pork pies) and steak and curry nights.
The Chesterfield Arms now goes on to the next round of the competition and will be in the running for Derbyshire Pub of the Year 2010. We wish them good luck and know that they will do our area proud! |
